The Mall Silks project profile this month features 2 different products that were built for a prominent retailer. A representative from the company contacted Mall Silks earlier this year to design and manufacture 2 preserved palm trees and a large replica bamboo plant for 3 of its locations. The preserved palms were 10' and 12' tall and the bamboo was 10' tall. The client ordered custom aluminum containers (which matched their store colors) to display all of the trees in. The trees were made to specifications provided by the client due to ceiling height and shopping aisle restrictions. All 3 products were packaged separately and shipped to each of the three locations. The preserved palms were made using real palm boots and preserved date palm fronds. The bamboo was our “wild” bamboo product which is made from real bamboo trunks. The bamboo is harvested locally near our Pittsburgh facility and then we allow it to dry before use. The artificial bamboo leaves are then meticulously added to the bamboo stems to create the plant. The trees took approximately 50 man hours to build, used approximately 60 preserved palm fronds, many natural palm boots, 6 natural “wild” bamboo stems and artificial bamboo foliage.
