Dr. David Suzuki School
At the beginning of September,
Mall Silks shipped out custom
made trees and plants to a new
school facility in Windsor,
Ontario, Canada. All
together, 12 trees were built
ranging in sizes from 8' to 16'
tall. Aspen, Oak, Birch, and
Pine trees were the selected
varieties by the client. The
Greater Essex County School
Board originally contacted
Mall Silks about this project
almost 2 years ago about the
possibility of creating a
“Carolinian Forest” themed
planting area inside of a
school. Mall Silks had
previously supplied materials
for a similar project at another
school in the same County about
4 years ago. So, there was some
experience with this type of
project. They liked the work so
much that they decided to give
Mall Silks another opportunity.
The materials were all built and
assembled by the Mall Silks
design center crew and shipped
to the job site. The truck was
loaded on a Friday and the Mall
Silks installation crew met the
semi-truck in Windsor, Ontario
the following Monday. All of the
materials were unloaded off of
the truck and stored in the
building while the planting
space was prepared. The planting
area was between a main hallway
and the library area of the
school. It is to act as a
“screen” between the two areas
instead of a traditional
wall. It also softens the space
and creates interest in a
specific location of the school
where students are encouraged to
explore and develop their
imaginations; the library. One
project supervisor stated that
“it would have cost the same to
put a in wall to separate the
space, so why not have a
forest?”. The installation took
four days and everyone involved
was very happy with the final
outcome. All together, the trees
and plants took approximately
130 man hours to manufacture and
120 man hours to install. Our
Mall Silks install crew went
above and beyond on this
beautiful international
project.
All materials were ready and
were shipped on schedule to the
school. The client is very
satisfied and the project was a
success. More images and
information about this state of
the art school can be seen at
http://www.suzukipublicschool.ca/overview.html.
Images of our work will be
posted soon.

Mall
Silks routinely receives calls and
requests concerning fall style
trees. These colorful trees are a
wonderful way to change up the décor in
a commercial space. We have had clients
request separate sets of trees for their
space to change out with the changing
of the seasons. They have a green set that is
installed for the majority of the year,
then one for the fall color change, and one for a
winter look. Mall Silks has experience
building Maple, Aspen, Oak, and Birch
trees using fall color artificial foliage. We have
also built bare Maple and birch trees
for winter scenes. Some of the fall and
winter trees that we have produced have
been over 20’ tall. The foliage can also
be fire retardant.
